Noni Madueke had to wait for his moment against Aston Villa. He stayed on the bench at kick-off, with Arteta sticking with Bukayo Saka on the right, and only came on in the 79th minute when Saka picked up a yellow and needed protecting. Once he got on, he barely had time to breathe. Arsenal were pushing hard for an equaliser, but the ball rarely found him in dangerous areas; he managed one touch in Villa’s box and completed just four passes in his 15 or so minutes. The big chance arrived deep into stoppage time: Declan Rice fizzed a low ball across the six-yard box and Madueke threw himself at it, only to smash his volley into the side-netting.
